Snacks of Jax
#6) Jerk Chicken from Stars Caribbean
( 1901 Blanding Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32210 )
The BBQ grill out front releasing those wonderful smells is why everyone comes here. The smoked and grilled meats like chicken and goat are one of the highlights of this off the radar gem. The sides, drinks, and quirky service will combine to make this a unique and delicious dining experience.
#10) "Pop-Tarts" from Vagabond Coffee
( 934 Edgewood Ave S, Jacksonville, FL 32205 )
Jacksonville has some significantly good coffee shops which might be odd for a Florida city. Vagabond makes the list because of it's delicious pastry. Homemade Pop-Tarts are exactly as good as you are imaging them right now. Fun and rotating filling flavors.
#7) Onion Soup from Restaurant Orsay
( 3630 Park St, Jacksonville, FL 32205 )
The entire menu at Restaurant Orsay is amazing. The talent in the kitchen is as good as any place in Florida. I only single out the soup because on those cold Florida winter nights when you feel like putting on a light sweater this soup will be a good way to start your delicious night of dining.
#4) Salamanca Salad from 13 Gypsies
( 887 Stockton St, Jacksonville, FL 32204 )
This salad has pine nuts, oranges, prosciutto, queso blanco, and mixed greens. 13 Gypsies serves it up all in this tiny restaurant with room for maybe 20 seats. I can't believe how good the dishes are that come out of this small kitchen. Amazing.
#12) Hot Fish and Grits from Gilbert's Underground Kitchen
( 510 S 8th St, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034 )
So Fernandina Beach is a little outside of Jacksonville but close enough for Gilbert's to make my list. Another Top Chef alumni opens a local restaurant. This one is by Chef Kenny Gilbert. Another menu highlight are the alligator ribs.....yes, I said alligator ribs.
#8) Spamiyaki Burger from Hapa Li Food Truck
( locations vary )
For a beach community like Jacksonville being able to have a taste of the islands....the Hawaiian islands is a great thing. If you are not into trying the best way possible to eat Spam then try one of their other sandwiches...tell them I said Aloha.
#2) Wood-Fired Oysters from il Desco Modern Italian
( 2665 Park St, Jacksonville, FL 32204 )
il Desco is another hot Riverside restaurant. The fish preparations here are also pretty amazing.
#1) Grilled Octopus from Sbraga & Company
( 220 Riverside Ave, Jacksonville, FL 33202 )
Top Chef Season 7 winner Chef Kevin Sbraga opens his own Jacksonville, FL restaurant and it doesn't disappoint. Other notable dishes include the Country Captain and Hog and Hominy.
#11) Cuban Sandwich from Pinegrove Market
( 1511 Pinegrove Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32205 )
Most of the sandwiches at Pinegrove are impressive. These guys get my vote for the top Cuban sandwich in Jacksonville.
#9) Margarita Pizza from Picasso's
( 10503 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32257 )
Picaso's is hidden away in a strip mall off San Jose Blvd. I am consistently happy with the food that comes out of that kitchen and this pizza is so goooood.
#5) Brisket from Gators BBQ
( 8083 Baymar St, Jacksonville, FL 32220 )
Finding a good BBQ place in your city is essential to life. I have found the best place for brisket in Duval County. It is a tiny BBQ shack in West Jacksonville. The service is friendly and the sides are on point. Enjoy.
#3) Smoked Duck Wings from Kitchen On San Marco
(1402 San Marco Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207 )
This San Marco hot spot serves up many fantastic dishes. You might have a different favorite dish here....so we will have to keep trying it again and debating. Lol
